On top of the world – a summer recap
Autumn has arrived here in the Netherlands, so what better time to quickly look back at the past summer and all the great events I was lucky to be part of!
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the alternative beach club Timboektoe at one of Holland’s best surf spots, where I’ve been managing music events on and off since 2005. To celebrate we organised a festival like event, with some of our favourite bands and deejays from those two decades. I managed all the bookings, marketing and production of this event, with the help of a great team, and it was a great night with 1000+ people partying till late. Check out the aftermovie for a taste and while you’re at it, check out some of the ‘Noordpier Sessions’ video’s – the monthly acoustic afternoon shows I organise at this venue.
With Boomerang Bookings, the agency me and Michel Bloem run with a focus on Australian music, we had a great summer too with many of our Aussie bands escaping the winter down under and enjoying the European summer vibes. We had the honour to organise the first Euro-tour of Ocean Alley, definitely a band to watch! Next to them, we were very impressed with the great shows all over the continent of My Baby, Sticky Fingers, Jack and the Weatherman, Frank Rensen, Bootleg Rascal, Caravana Sun and Mat McHugh of the Beautiful Girls.
Another highlight was The Brave, a singer-songwriter festival where I did the marketing and communication for. Also I was invited to play bass guitar with Benjamin Winter, a Californian artist I used to tour with a lot in the past. My marketing plan worked out very well, selling the festival out for the first time in their three years existence. The festival worked out great with many unknown artists breaking ground for the first time in the Netherlands. Check out the aftermovie for an impression!
This summer I was also lucky to be doing the marketing for all the reggae shows in the Amsterdam venue the Melkweg, with legendary names such as Israel Vibration, The Wailing Souls, Inner Circle, Alborosie, Tarrus Riley, Beres Hammond, O Rappa, Gentleman, Ky-Mani Marley, Daniel Marley, The Skatalites and Chronixx. We did many great poster campaigns, but the Facebook channel Melkweg Reggae I developed in the last years is also finally delivering with amazing reach and engagement. Check out the page for some photo’s and posters!
Now summer is over and I’ve been freelancing for almost 9 months, I’m happy to see it’s working out very well, with lots of great jobs. The sense of freedom and creativity I feel is amazing and I am stoked for the winter season coming up and all the opportunities that comes with it. I’m not sure exactly yet what the coming months will bring and I am still open for new ideas and projects, so if you happen to read this (and made it this far haha) and have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to shoot me a message. I’m thankful to all the amazing people I worked with the last few months and feel blessed with all the success we achieved, like we’re on top of the world!
